How Long Does It Take to Charge an Electric Vehicle?

If you’ve ever wondered, “How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?” Classic Volkswagen can help. Mentor drivers have several different options when it comes to charging an electric vehicle. Each option uses different plugs and adapters. Also, electric car charging times vary by make and model. Here, Classic Volkswagen explains the three main types of EV charging: domestic charging, rapid domestic charging, and public charging. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Electric Car Charging Times and Options

  1. Domestic Outlet Home Charging (Regular Outlet): Bedford drivers that usea standard grounded (three-prong) 110V/120V charging outlet, called Level 1 Charging, won’t get a fast charging speed. Still, it’s a good option for topping off the amount of charge you used commuting. It typically takes approximately 24 hours or more to get a full charge using a domestic outlet at home.
  2. Installed Brand-Approved Domestic Charging: A Level 2 Charging station needs to be professionally installed. Level 2 charging (usually 240V+) uses rapid chargers designed for your brand of vehicle. This style of charging provides significantly faster charging rates than a regular household outlet. Sometimes you can even obtain an 80% charge in less than an hour with this type of charging, but the last 20% will take longer because there’s a diminishing rate of charging speed.
  3. Public Charging: These days, it’s easy to charge on-the-go around Willoughby at shopping malls, parking garages, hotels, and apartment buildings. You may even find charging stations at big-name national stores like Kohls and Walgreens. These public charging stations range in type and speed. Some public charging stations even provide emissions-free renewable energy charging with solar panels or wind turbines!

Volkswagen ID.4 Charging Time

The Volkswagen ID.4 charging time depends on the charging method you use. Your new VW ID.4 includes a Level 1 charging cable, but you can speed that up with a Level 2 home charger (sold separately). With Level 2 you can get a rapid charge in about an hour.

Benefits of Electric Cars

Aside from a more efficient commute to Chardon, there are many environmental benefits of electric cars. These are just some of the other benefits of electric cars:

  • No Engine Noise: Most drivers love the quiet ride of an EV because they don’t produce any engine noise.
  • Reduced Maintenance: Electric cars don’t need engine oil, so you’ll never need to get an oil change!
  • Zero Emissions: One of the many environmental benefits of electric cars is nearly zero emissions. Most EVs don’t even contain an exhaust system!
  • Renewable Energy: Another environmental benefit of electric cars is that they sometimes use renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, or water.
  • Performance: One of the top benefits of electric cars, including the ID.4 Volkswagen EV, is remarkable performance! Electric motors generate almost instantaneous torque!
