How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

Rotating tires
Wouldn’t it be great if tires lasted for the life of your vehicle? Unfortunately, tire wear is inevitable, but Bedford drivers can slow the process when they get their tires rotated on a regular basis. But what does that mean? 5,000-7,000 miles is the magic mark for how many miles to rotate tires, although you need to check your owner’s manual to find out exactly what your make and model demands. That number can change, depending on what kind of drive train you have. Learn all about how often you should rotate your tires and how to do it with the service team at Classic Volkswagen.

Reasons to Know When to Rotate Tires

Considering how unpredictable and extreme weather conditions can get during Ohio winters and spring storms, you want to make sure you have the best tread possible on your tires. Regular tire rotations keep your tires wearing evenly, which means you’re less likely to have one balding tire give out on a slippery street. You’ll also reduce road noise and give your engine and transmission a break when your tires are wearing evenly.

When to Rotate Tires If You Have RWD and FWD

Plenty of Willoughby drivers opt for rear-wheel drive or front-wheel drive because they like the extra boost of engine power going to the front or rear wheels when they need it. However, because certain wheels get more power, those tires will wear out faster. So when you rotate tires on a RWD or FWD vehicle, you should do so in specific patterns that help your tires wear more evenly. Here’s how to rotate your tires on a RWD or FWD vehicle:

  • Turn the vehicle’s rear tires counterclockwise to perform the FWD tire rotation yourself. In this case, the right-rear tire should be mounted on the left-front wheel. When the front tires are switched to the back, they stay on the same side.
  • If you have a rear-wheel drive automobile, reverse the steps above. When reversing the position of the tires, the front tires should switch sides while the rear tires should remain on the same side.

How Many Miles to Rotate Tires on an AWD Vehicle

If you leave Chardon to go off-roading in an all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive vehicle, you’ll need to rotate your tires every 3,000-5,000 miles. Your tires will still wear at different rates as they do with RWD and FWD and require rotation in a clockwise direction.
